NRF Research Investigators

Launched in 2014, the NRF Investigatorship Scheme supports mid-career scientists and researchers to pursue ground-breaking, high-risk research. The maximum amount of SGD 3 million research grants over 5 years are given to excellent Principle Investigators who have a track record of research achievements and have been identified as leaders in their respective fields of research. Prof. Christos Panagopoulos and Assoc Prof. Xiong Qihua are the recipients of the inaugural NRF Investigatorship (Class of 2015).

Fidel COSTA

Associate Professor
NRF Investigatorship (Class of 2017)

Research Expertise/Interest
1. Understanding and quantifying the processes that make volcanoes erupt which includes fieldwork, geochemical and petrological studies of the erupted rock and thermodynamic and kinetic experiments and models.
2. Monitoring time series data (seismicity, deformation, gas fluxes), and making probabilistic models for better anticipating volcanic eruptions using big databases (WOVOdat).
