Research Overview

As a research-intensive university, NTU has a vibrant research culture and environment. It has established a global reputation in fields such as biomedical engineering, clean energy, advanced materials and environment, intelligent systems, and nanotechnology.

To consolidate and further advance our research standing and capabilities, NTU College of Science (CoS) has identified niche areas of research and innovation strength; and actively  facilitating and encouraging interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research, recruiting and retaining talents, and strengthening partnerships with world leading institutions and industry partners.

 The Asian School of the Environment (ASE) is a new interdisciplinary School that aims to be a world leader in environmental research focused on Asian environmental challenges. Research at the ASE spans the disciplines of earth and environmental life science, ecology, engineering and technology, human ecology, humanities, and the social sciences.

As an interdisciplinary school, our research teams address key research problems on the environment and sustainability, a key part of NTUs Peak of Excellence on Sustainable Earth. Most of the researchers at ASE hold positions in the two Research Centers of Excellence: the Singapore Centre on Environmental Life Sciences Engineering (SCELSE) and the Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS).

The School of Biological Sciences (SBS), which belongs to the College of Science, was established in 2002 with a mission to make a strong contribution to biological and biomedical sciences. Since then, many talented individuals from around the world and Singapore have joined us, as scientific leaders, researchers, or postgraduate students, working across our various fields of research.

SBS collaborates with local and international research institutes, universities and hospitals, sharing a common goal to advance basic knowledge and translational application in the biological and biomedical sciences.  



The School of Physical & Mathematical Sciences (SPMS) includes three divisions: Division of Chemistry & Biological Chemistry (CBC), Division of Physics and Applied Physics (PAP), and Division of Mathematical Sciences (MAS). It strives to create an environment that encourages and rewards the pursuit of academic research excellence. SPMS provides a world class research and education environment spanning classical and contemporary areas of the physical and mathematical sciences. SPMS is devoted to advancing scientific knowledge through research and education. Leveraging on the reputation of its research achievements, SPMS continues to address scientific problems of major societal concerns such as those exemplified by the Peaks of Excellence of Sustainable Earth, Secure Community and Healthy Society in NTU 2020 five-year strategic plan.
